Franz Fanon's "On Violence" chapter in Wretched of the Earth , he highlights the necessities of violent armed resistance that took the form of urban guerilla warfare in Algeria's fight for independence from the depraved imperialist tactics of colonial France. The Battle of Algiers, by Gillo Pontecorvo, vividly re-creates a key year in the tumultuous Algerian struggle for independence from the occupying French in the 1950s. It portrays events such as the FLN's (Front de Libération Nationale) bombings, assassinations, and the French military's efforts to suppress the insurgency.

Leila Khaled successfully hijacked an "israeli" plane in April, 1969 which was one of the first major acts of resistance that put Palestine on headlines in Western media.

The birth of Chicano Park is the story of a barrio tragedy transformed into triumph. For 12 days, beginning April 22, 1970, Women, men, children, activists, students, residents, the youth, the elderly and entire families gathered at the construction site beneath the Coronado Bridge-- successfully seizing the land from being built into a highway patrol substation. Now, it is where Chicanos continue making history as they fight to preserve and defend a small piece of Aztlán in Barrio Logan, San Diego. The community continues to nurture this historical reclamation: Returning to Aztlán - home.

And unlike other parks, Chicano Park was taken by militant force by a community angered by decades of neglect, ignorance and racism.
